Scarlett Johansson Should Have Been a Porn Star

I hate to write this hub because I myself am a huge fan of Scarlett Johansson. She's one of my favorite celebrities out there right now, but I just think she should have been placed in a more talent-fitting career path. I mean, truthfully, who out there doesn't believe that Scarlett could be contributing much, much more to the porn industry than she is currently giving to the "legitimate actor" community in Hollywood? I hate to admit it and as much as I love the girl, she isn't one of the greatest actresses out there. I take that back. Her performance in Lost in Translation was utterly flawless, and her role in that move, along with the movie in general, was outstanding and fresh and I give her a lot of credit. That being said, I haven't seen her putting anything else out there that's more than mediocre. She's been in some good movies, that's true, but her acting always seems to leave us wanting. I truly believe she brings only sexual appeal to the movies she's been in recently and it makes me wonder, why not give us the whole thing with an X-rated film?

Okay, so she's managed so far to be successful as a legitimate actress, and why would she leave that? I'm not saying she should. If I were her, I'd milk it for all it's worth. I just think there's something off about giving Scarlett all these main roles when one of her overdone lines makes us cringe in the theatre every time. We all see it. But we forgive and forget those acting faux pas because she is simply so beautiful.

Maybe that explains why she's made it so far in Hollywood. Do directors and casting crews convince themselves that her lacking in delivering her lines is made up for by her immense, classical beauty? I wouldn't doubt it. Some movies just need that extra sparkle of an almost scary, sexy lady. And hey, she gets them the ratings.

Is this okay? Should we really just accept a poor performance because a celebrity is pleasing to look at on the big screen for an hour and a half? I can certainly understand that, especially when the sexy Scarlett Johansson does a thirty second "sex scene" with the dreamy leading man.

Take the movie He's Just Not That Into You. Not a bad movie - although reminiscent of the common "chick flick" - but Scarlett's performance shows the two complete extremes of her acting ability. If you watch the youtube clip to the right, you'll see an incredibly convincing sexual moment between the two characters (Scarlett and Bradley Cooper) and then if you skip to 4:13, Johansson's acting is all over the place. She is screaming at Cooper - which is to be expected, knowing the circumstances - but not believable whatsoever, and towards the end of her frenzy, she says to him, "Don't touch me!" Which he clearly was not.

This is one of the worst things I've ever seen in terms of acting, but one of the best in terms of movie sex. It confuses me sometimes how she is unable get across anger or fear or really any emotion unless it comes to sex. I keep thinking, she can't be acting; she must really be into it!

I want to reiterate, I am a big fan of Scarlett Johansson. It pains me so to write this, but I just need to keep reminding myself - and you - that I am merely exploring some observations and considerations I have pondered in watching most of her movies. When I think of Scarlett Johansson as an actress I always feel something is missing. Her performance in sex scenes leads me to think that she would be worlds better in a role mainly concentrated around sex. But then, I think to myself about how classy this woman really is. Does she really fit among the disease-ridden, plastic-injected whores on private computer screens everywhere? I want to say, Hell no!

I know there are tons of guys out there who would love to see Johansson in a porno, and I would have to agree; realistically, Scarlett would be better in any of those roles than the people presently in them. Think about the acting in pornographic films. Non-existent. Now think about the acting during the sex. Still pretty bad. Very artificial and forced. Scarlett would make watching porn feel real. But any true fan of that beautiful young woman wouldn't want to see her in such an industry. Neither would I.
